Christian II. von Anhalt-Bernburg entstammte dem alten Hochadelsgeschlecht der Askanier und wurde am 11. August 1599 als zweiter Sohn des Fürsten Christian I. (1568–1630) und dessen Gemahlin Anna Gräfin von Bentheim (1579–1624) in Amberg geboren, wo sein Vater seit 1595 als kurpfälzischer Rat und Statthalter der Oberpfalz amtierte.
