This is the fourth and final volume of the series, The Asch Recordings, drawn from Woody Guthrie's remarkable 1940's sessions for Folkways founder, Moses Asch. Songs about cowboys, outlaws, and other western themes were carefully remastered from the best available sources. Cisco Houston accompanies Guthrie on 10 tracks.
In September, Asch released the first of his Guthrie recordings on the various-artists album Folksay: American Ballads and Dances, followed by another various-artists album called Blues, and then, at the turn of the year, the solo album Woody Guthrie, consisting of three 78 rpm discs and including such songs as "Grand Coulee Dam" and "Jesus Christ."
