23 dic 2008 · In "So's Your Old Man" no great outstanding comedy wallop, but it is a series of humorous situations and laugh compelling bits that follow along in an endless train from the beginning to the end. The story looks as though it might have had the benefit of the fine Italian hand of one Tom Gerahty, leads up to a point where Fields can logically introduce his famous golf game.
Next was “So’s Your Old Man” (1926). Not only is it the best of his surviving silent films, but also presents the first of W.C.’s downtrodden husbands. Director Gregory La Cava came from a newspaper cartoon background, and from 1916 to 1920 made Krazy Kat and Katzenjammer Kids cartoons for Heart’s Interna-tional Comic Films.
“So's your old man!” is no more than a comeback that is used when (1) you don't want to provoke your antagonist very much or (2) you can't think of a more clever rejoinder. You might have said “Aw, your mother wears combat boots,” which, before women served in combat in the military, implied that she was less than feminine.
