If you're only buying the download and not the cds like me, there's a 2-CD version that also includes the "Live in the Fiddler's House" recording which are 18 more songs on top of this for only a few dollars more. Itzhak Perlman. Live in the Fiddler's House. Angel Records, 56209, 1996. 810 Seventh Ave., New York, NY 10019. Last year was another year, so, another Fiddler tour. Overall, I think this is a very good thing. Oh, I know, friends have pointed out to me that Perlman doesn't really "get" klez the way he could. And if I listen hard, I do hear it.
It is clear that this music is very meaningful to him. His amazing expertise with the instrument just makes his feelings come out with more vividness than could possibly be accomplished by a lesser musician. It is Perlman’s virtuosity, along with Michael Alpert’s vision, that ties this album into a unified whole.
