Tokyo Joe is a 1949 American film noir crime film directed by Stuart Heisler and starring Humphrey Bogart. This was Heisler's first of two features starring Bogart, the other was Chain Lightning that also wrapped in 1949 but was held up in release until 1950.
Tokyo Joe was the first movie filmed in post-war Japan. It gets off to an interesting start as an American war veteran returns to Japan in the hopes of picking up his old life. The film pays some heed to fraught US-Japan relations following the war, showcases a little bit of the city and even has Humphrey Bogart engaging in Judo.
