Inspired by Susan Sontag’s well known essay ‘Notes on Camp’, as well as the very successful rerelease of the 1943 serial Batman, The Movie Orgy is a mind-boggling patchwork of 50s and 60s television and cinema, conceived by Joe Dante as a film student in Philadelphia.
L’idea di realizzare The Movie Orgy risale all’inizio del 1966, quando Joe Dante frequentava il secondo anno presso il Philadelphia College of Art and Design.L’ispirazione venne dalla serie Batman del 1943, che era tornata alla ribalta con le proiezioni al Playboy Theater di Chicago cominciate nel luglio 1965.
9 giu 2023 · A conversation with Joe Dante. The thing that gave us the idea to do “The Movie Orgy” was the reissue of the 1943 “ Batman ” serial. To promote the new TV show, it was re-released to art theaters, so that all 15 chapters could be watched one after another. And after about five hours of this, your brain started to rot.
