SKY HUNTER isn't a bad film per se, just an extremely predictable one. It's another flag-waving slice of propaganda from the Chinese mainland, starring none other than Fan Bingbing, best known these days for being deliberately disappeared for months by the Chinese authorities (for tax evasion, apparently).
While perhaps overly dramatic at times, it's more that made up for with action. The non-Chinese actors struggle to sell their performances, but they suffice in the end. You are really watching to see Li Chen, Fan Bingbing, and Li Jiahang anyway. A nice directorial debut for Li Chen and with the full support of the PLAAF, it looks and sound great.
Lifting entire sequences throughout the film, Sky Hunter similarly serves as a grand-scale recruitment video for wannabe fighter pilots.
