Rudy Vallée, né Hubert Prior Vallée le 28 juillet 1901 dans le Vermont (État du Nord-Est des États-Unis, au nord du Massachusetts ), a commencé à étudier très tôt le saxophone et la clarinette, pour finalement intégrer la prestigieuse université Yale, dans laquelle il fait de la musique avec ses camarades de faculté.
He was of French-Canadian background and sometimes used the French form of his surname, Vallée. His father, Charles Vallee, was a pharmacist. The family moved to Westbrook, Maine, outside Portland, during Rudy's childhood, and he took immediately to a snare drum his family gave him when he was 11 years old.
