Il khanato conobbe un violento disordine politico interno a partire dal 1359, prima di riunirsi brevemente (1381-1395) sotto Toktamish. Tuttavia, subito dopo l'invasione del 1396 di Tamerlano, fondatore dell' Impero timuride, l'Orda d'Oro fu frammentata in piccoli khanati tartari che persero gradualmente potere.

14 ott 2019 · I successi resero Toktamish troppo ambizioso. Come prossima mossa, decise di rivoltarsi contro il suo mentore Tamerlano. La campagna di Tamerlano fu vendicativa: saccheggiò Saraj, incendiò i territori dell'Orda e costrinse Toktamish alla fuga. Toktamish si rifugiò in Lituania, provando senza successo a riconquistare l'Orda.
