Hopkins is considered to be on the left of the Labour Party, and joined the Socialist Campaign Group upon her election to Parliament. In May 2024, PoliticsHome reported that she had left the Campaign Group. She voted for Brexit in the 2016 EU referendum, making her one of the few known Labour MPs to have done so.
