t. e. Britannia Royal Naval College ( BRNC ), commonly known as Dartmouth, is the naval academy of the United Kingdom and the initial officer training establishment of the Royal Navy. It is located on a hill overlooking the port of Dartmouth, Devon, England. Royal Naval officer training has taken place in Dartmouth since 1863.
The Royal Naval College provided state-of-the-art training for around 27,000 promising officers from Britain and beyond as the Navy made the transition from sail to steam power. In 1939, with the start of World War II, women were able to join the newly formed Women’s Royal Naval Service and were trained at the Royal Naval College.

Royal insignia In 2013, the King of the Netherlands was given special insignia, showing the regalia orb, scepter and sword for army and navy. Although it indicates no rank, it shows his lasting connection to the armed forces.
