Why England Slept originated from John F. Kennedy’s senior thesis at Harvard University. Originally titled “Appeasement at Munich,” Kennedy’s work delved into the reasons for Britain’s policy of appeasement towards Nazi Germany in the lead-up to World War II. His primary focus was on the years 1937-1939.
About the Book. John F. Kennedy had long been interested in the topic of political courage, beginning with his senior thesis at Harvard. The thesis, later published as Why England Slept, was a study of the failure of British political leaders in the 1930s to oppose popular resistance to rearming, leaving the country ill-prepared for World War II.

In Why England Slept, the author discusses democracy versus dictatorship, the psychology of a nation's people, defense expenditures, disarmament and rearmament, appeasement, pacifism, the role of capitalism in England's unpreparedness, and the penalty of Munich--among other things. Many of the ideas he expresses here are extremely relevant today.
Why England Slept, as most probably know, grew out of JFK's senior thesis(of the same name) while at Harvard. Perhaps this reviewer had this book confused with Kennedy's other famous work, "Profiles in Courage", which a lot of evidence suggests was actually ghost-written by JFK's eventual speechwriter, Teddy Sorensen.
