1953年，在時任校長米爾頓·艾森豪（Milton Eisenhower）的主導下，學校正式改名為賓夕法尼亞州立大學（The Pennsylvania State University）。 艾森豪在任期間，學校的大多數學院相繼建立，而他的繼任者埃里克沃克（Eric Walker）於1956年至1970年期間將學校進一步發展成為了美國東部的教育中心之一。

The Pennsylvania legislature designated Penn State as the Commonwealth's sole land-grant institution in 1863, which eventually broadened the University?s mission to include teaching, research, and public service in many academic disciplines.
