28 apr 2005 · When I first read "The Moon's A Balloon" in the early 1970s, I convulsed with laughter, especially reading the Maltese mess dinner story. When I re-read it recently, the same Maltese story had me in fits. Mr. Niven was an astoundingly accomplished, clear and humorous autobiographical writer.
