Marcus Belgrave (June 12, 1936 – May 24, 2015) was an American jazz trumpet player. He was born in Chester, Pennsylvania , but raised in Detroit , Michigan . He recorded with a variety of famous musicians, bandleaders, and record labels since the 1950s.

A few reflections after comparing this reissue to the first pressing, using Nagaoka MP-200 needles and crossfading between the two on a mixer. 1) It is so, so difficult to create a reissue that outshines an original pressing and few folks can pull it off with consistency.

Marcus Belgrave was born on June 12, 1936, in Chester, Pa., a manufacturing town near Philadelphia. He started blowing a bugle at 4 and a trumpet at 6, taught by his father, a fine amateur musician. Belgrave’s cousin was baritone saxophonist Cecil Payne, who played with Dizzy Gillespie’s big band, and it wasn’t long before Payne was teaching Belgrave to play bebop melodies by Charlie Parker.
