Cronyn, Hume(b. 18 July 1911 in London, Ontario, Canada; d. 15 June 2003 in Fairfield, Connecticut), versatile actor in films, theater, and television, who often performed with his actress-wife, Jessica Tandy, in one of the most enduring acting partnerships in American theater.
Cronyn was born to a prominent family. His father was politician Hume Blake Cronyn (1864-1933), Member of Parliament for London, Ontario (term 1917-1921). The elder Cronyn was a grandson of both Benjamin Cronyn, first bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Huron (1802-1871) and politician William Hume Blake (1809-1870), first Chancellor of Upper Canada.

Canadian-born actor Hume Cronyn was the son of a well-known Ontario politician. At his father's insistence, young Cronyn studied law at McGill University, but had by then already decided he wanted to be an actor; he made his stage bow with the Montreal Repertory Company at 19, while still a student.
