1915 mit bürgerlichem Namen Giichi Ichikawa ( 市川 儀一) geboren, machte Kon Ichikawa seine ersten Erfahrungen im Filmgeschäft als Trickfilmzeichner und wurde dann Assistent von Tamizo Ishida. Seine erste bekannte Arbeit war der fünfminütige Trickfilm Yowamushi Chinsengumi ( 弱虫珍選組 ), der 2014 wiedergefunden wurde. [2]
Kon Ichikawa (1915-2008) è noto fuori del Giappone soprattutto se non esclusivamente per L'arpa birmana (1956). Nel 1959 diresse Nobi, tratto dall'omonimo romanzo di Shōhei Ōoka (1909-1988) pubblicato in Italia da Einaudi nel 1957 col titolo La guerra del soldato Tamura. Non è mai stato distribuito invece il film di Ichikawa.

Kon Ichikawa was a Japanese film director and screenwriter. His work displays a vast range in genre and style, from the anti-war films The Burmese Harp and Fires on the Plain, to the documentary Tokyo Olympiad, which won two BAFTA Film Awards, and the 19th-century revenge drama An Actor's Revenge.
