8 nov 2011 · DOUGHBOYS, which he considered his best early talkie, illustrates that, the less he was burdened with punny dialogue and over-cute plots from the front office, the more his comedy could breathe. This film can’t stand toe-to-toe with Buster’s best, but it is still head-and-shoulders above the work of his contemporaries of the period, and, for that alone, it merits a look.

Doughboys is a 1930 American Pre-Code comedy film starring Buster Keaton. It was Keaton's second starring talkie vehicle and has been called Keaton's "most successful sound Picture." A Spanish-language version was also made under the title, De Frente, Marchen.
7 feb 2018 · Simmer for 20 minutes. DO NOT lift the cover until the 20 minutes are up. Remove the cover and let the dumplings sit about 5 minutes. Serve 1 or 2 Dough Boys with each bowl of soup or stew . Makes 6-8 dumplings. Mix the flour, baking powder, salt and butter together. Rub the butter into the flour until it is mealy.
Buster Keaton called Doughboys the best film he made while in his employ by MGM. Strongly influenced by his time in World War I -- though written and directed by other men, he was allowed crucial input -- this war comedy was also one of his earliest talkie productions.
