21 mar 2010 · Schizopolis is best watched four times because of it's non-linear plot. The film is divided into three chapters, and each chapter makes more sense if you've seen the other two. It's an independent art film, so you have to watch it in that context. I found it amusing and thought-provoking, but not a requirement for my ultimate DVD collection.

Despite Schizopolis' comedic diversions and periodic self-deconstructions, what sticks out the most about this film is how similar it is to David Lynch's Lost Highway, which was made at the same time.

Schizopolis is a self reflective movie Soderbergh style. Fellini 8 ½, Woody has Stardust Memories, Soderbergh has Schizopolis. According to what I have read behind the making of this film is that Soderbergh thought of quitting filmmaking once and for all after the critically panned The Underneath. His thoughts were put to the making of this film.

Back in 1996, Soderbergh had just finished up a stretch of three consecutive films that failed to live up to the success of his groundbreaking debut, Sex, Lies, and Videotape.
