And on that level, The Stairs is a good bit of fun. There are several different creatures lurking in the forest, all created with practical effects.

Still from THE STAIRS Some might argue that the movie doesn’t answer enough questions about the mysteries and phenomena it is trying to explore, while I’d argue that it actually gives away far too much.

  6. Robert Eyer plays the young alter-ego of William Inge, who wrote the Pulitzer Prize-winning play on which this film is based. Eyer's fear of the "dark at the top of the stairs" is meant to be symbolic of the other characters' inner demons, a fact that Inge drives home every three minutes or so.
