Mr Carmichael highlighted the statistics in a question in Parliament on Tuesday. Speaking in the House, Mr Carmichael said: “Orkney and Shetland have the worst rates of fuel poverty in the country, and provisional figures show that last year both Orkney and Shetland suffered record levels of winter mortality.

The dissolution of Parliament took place on 30th May 2024. There are currently no MPs – all seats in the House of Commons are vacant until after the general election on 4th July 2024.
