But aside from several issues worth of pencils from one of the greatest X-Men artists of all time (um, he designed Nightcrawler, among countless other iconic characters), we’ve also got early “Phoenix Saga” John Byrne and the beginning of Paul Smith’s stellar run.

Dave Cockrum. (11 November 1943 - 26 November 2006, USA) After spending six years in the Navy, Dave Cockrum began his career in comics at Warren Publishing. There, he did work for Warren's magazines, such as Creepy, Eerie and Vampirella. He then began inking Murphy Anderson 's backgrounds on the 'Superboy' and 'Superman' comics for DC.
Both Devil-Fish and Manphibian were original concepts designed by Dave Cockrum. Cockrum conceived both characters out of a personal love for the 1955 Universal Studios film, The Creature from the Black Lagoon. Cockrum later re-imagined the Manphibian character for a resin model kit produced by Action Hobbies.
