Reformed on 15 February 1954 at RAF Kuala Lumpur, Malaya as a transport support and communications squadron. It was renumbered No. 209 Squadron on 1 November 1958. The squadron was again reformed as a transport squadron on 1 November 1962 at RAF Benson with No. 38 Group until being disbanded on 30 June 1970.
Its present base is at RAF Benson where it has been since 1992. In June 1951 Aidan Crawley the then Under-Secretary of Air presented the squadron its new badge to the Vice-Chancellor Dr J.Lowe (Dean of Christ Church, Oxford ) just before the students headed for its annual camp.
Benson, on the north and east banks of the Thames, was unaffected by the 1974 boundary changes between Berkshire and Oxfordshire. After the war the unit was officially formed at RAF Odiham in Hampshire and RAF Gütersloh in Germany. In September 2009, the unit became the Joint Helicopter Support Squadron (JHSS) following its merger with the RAF's Mobile Air Operations Team (MAOT). During 2016 the squadron moved from RAF Odiham to RAF Benson in Oxfordshire.
