Charlotte Wilhelmine of Anhalt-Bernberg-Hoyn. Landgrave Frederick of Hesse-Philippsthal-Barchfeld (1727 in Grave – 1777 in Barchfeld) was the oldest son of Landgrave William of Hesse-Philippsthal-Barchfeld and his wife, Charlotte Wilhelmine of Anhalt-Bernberg-Hoyn. He succeeded his father as Landgrave of Hesse-Philippsthal-Barchfeld in 1761.
Hesse-Kassel and its junior lines were annexed by Prussia in 1866. Hesse-Darmstadt became the People's State of Hesse when the monarchy was abolished in 1918. Hesse-Philippsthal died out in the male line in 1925, and Hesse-Darmstadt in 1968. The male-line heirs of Hesse-Kassel and Hesse-Philippsthal-Barchfeld continue to exist to the present day.
The attempts of Prince Ernst of Hesse-Philippsthal in the 19th century to set up a tobacco factory were unsuccessful. Industrial development began at the end of the 19th century, and at the beginning of the 20th century Barchfeld developed into a centre of bicycle accessories production through the business idea of Eduard Reum.

Philip of Hesse-Philippsthal (14 December 1655 – 18 June 1721) was the son of William VI, Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel and Hedwig Sophia of Brandenburg. He was the first landgrave of Hesse-Philippsthal from 1663 to 1721 and the founder of the fifth branch of the house of Hesse .
On 27 June 1854 she married Alexis, Landgrave of Hesse-Philippsthal-Barchfeld, head of the cadet branch of the House of Hesse, at Charlottenburg Palace. The marriage remained childless and ended with a divorce on 6 March 1861. Death
