With those three cuts followed by a gorgeous, lilting reworking of her own “Little Wheel Spin and Spin,” Running for the Drum boasts a simply phenomenal opening sequence. Those songs speak to the depth of Sainte-Marie’s focused folk-singer outrage and her still-razor-sharp ear for a memorable pop hook.
Ich bin seit über 40 Jahren ein großer Fan von Buffy Sainte-Marie und habe ihrer Karriere stets mitverfolgt. Von diesem Comeback nach rund 13 Jahren (1996 erschien mit Up Where We Belong ein von ihr getroffene Auswahl von Neueinspielungen ihrer Songs, das letzte Album mit neuen Songs erschien 1992)wurde ich doch überrascht.

2 set 2008 · Following Vanguard's release of the compilation album The Best of the Vanguard Years (2003), Sainte-Marie independently released Running for the Drum (2008), a collection of 12 new songs. It featured American blues musician Taj Mahal on piano and won the 2009 Juno Award for Aboriginal Recording of the Year, as well as four Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards .
