30 mag 2020 · Mander spent a decade in the service with three years fighting in Iraq. After he left the service, Mander found himself in South America, and he was quickly closing in on rock bottom. Rattled by his years in combat, he began “a rapid downward spiral of drugs and alcohol,” he told me on a recent call from his home in Zimbabwe.
Damien Mander is an Iraq war veteran who served as a Naval clearance diver and special operations sniper for the Australian Defense Force. In 2009 while travelling through Africa, he was inspired by the work of rangers and the plight of wildlife.
