The school was founded in 1883 as King Edward's Aston on the site where its brother school, King Edward VI Aston School, remains to this day. In 2019 there were 1086 girls on roll. Pupils must pass an 11-plus entrance exam to get into the school.
The Houses stand apart from the School’s year groups and academic programmes. These close-knit groups draw full, weekly and flexi boarders and day pupils together for sports and other shared competitive endeavours. For boarders, our Houses really are their term-time homes; for day pupils, they are a welcoming source of support and team spirit.
King Edward’s School switched from A-levels to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma in 2010, receiving its first set of results in 2012. Since then, it has consistently been placed amongst the best IB schools in the world, receiving awards including ‘The Sunday Times International Baccalaureate School of the Year 2015-16’ and the ‘IB Boys’ School of the Year 2015’.

Two exeat weekends in every term. Full-time boarders live at School seven days a week throughout the term, apart from exeat weekends. Each term has two exeat weekends when boarders leave for home at 16:00 on Friday and return the following Sunday evening. Exeat weekends are for strengthening family bonds. What is boarding?
