Founded by Joanna and David Thomas more than 50 years ago, the group has grown from a kindergarten in a local church hall into now a group of five prestigious, over-subscribed and interconnected independent day schools teaching more than 2,000 children.

Both at 11+ and 13+, around two-thirds to day schools, the rest (30 odd) to boarding schools. ‘There’s been a real flip over the last 10 years,’ says the school, ‘it used to be the other way round, with two-thirds to boarding schools.’
Thomas’s Academy is a vibrant, inclusive community where pupils become confident, independent, self-aware and thoughtful learners. State-funded, the Academy is a separate legal entity to Thomas’s London Day Schools, but is a full member of our family of schools.

1977. Six years later, the success of the kindergarten and the strong demand for London day schools of quality encouraged David Thomas to give up his job with an American bank and to join his wife in founding a school for older children.
