In Miss Marple’s words, a crude thing to do. Immediately, what comes to her mind is the Mother Goose rhyme, “six pence, a pocket full of rye, four and twenty blackbirds found in a pie.” The murders fit the rhyme down to the King at his counting house with a pocket full of rye, the Queen found with honey, and the maid near a clothesline.
A Pocket Full of Rye is a faithful adaptation of the novel, with only minor changes to the way characters are described. Murder Is Easy is very loosely based on the novel which does not feature Miss Marple, also changing the murderer's motive. They Do It with Mirrors combines some characters and adds an arson attack.
A wealthy, elderly businessman, Rex Fortescue, is murdered, poisoned. In one of his pockets is a handful of rye.
