5 feb 2018 · “Guard the Lion Shrine” has become one of the most popular events surrounding the lion shrine. During the event, Penn State ROTC guards the shrine during homecoming weekend. The event is organized by Penn State’s Lion Ambassadors. Tommy Slotcavage, the vice president of the Ambassadors, said the event first became popular in the sixties.
The Penn State Nittany Lions basketball team is an NCAA Division I college basketball team representing the Pennsylvania State University. They play home games at the 15,261-seat Bryce Jordan Center, moving there from Rec Hall during the 1995–96 season. Their student cheering section is known as the Legion of Blue .

I grew up in a rural part of State College and while I'm not 100% sure I'm confidant I've heard a mountain lion.
