Eine Definition, die im Zusammenhang mit Western-Filmen benutzt wird, beruht schlicht auf der Produktions-Zeit bzw. der Veröffentlichung des jeweiligen Films und bezeichnet die Western, die nach der großen Zeit des Westerns als Kino-Genre produziert wurden.
