Westminster Abbey, formally titled the Collegiate Church of Saint Peter at Westminster, is an Anglican church in the City of Westminster, London, England.Since 1066, it has been the location of the coronations of 40 English and British monarchs and a burial site for 18 English, Scottish, and British monarchs.

Westminster Abbey, formally known as the Collegiate Church of Saint Peter at Westminster, holds an eminent position in British heritage and plays a significant role in the country's history. As one of the United Kingdom's most remarkable religious buildings, the abbey has served as the traditional venue for coronations and the final resting place for numerous English and British monarchs.
[1] [2] In the tenth century the church became a Benedictine abbey and was adopted as a royal church, which subsequently became a royal palace in the 11th century. [3] Edward the Confessor, the penultimate Anglo-Saxon king, began the building of Westminster Abbey and a neighbouring palace to oversee its construction. [4]
