Peter Higgins is a writer and musician. He and his wife Sally have moved into the village of Shillingbury. The council needs a new conductor for the brass band and invite Peter to join. This causes dissent from the band because they don't want to replace their old friend "Salty" — Britstuff.
A small English village is in turmoil with the arrival of a pop star and his wife. He soon becomes the conductor of the local brass band after the previous conductor is criticized for the false notes played by the brass band.

Successful musician Peter Higgins (Robin Nedwell) and his wife Sally (Diane Keen) move from London to the (fictional) village of Shillingbury in Hertfordshire to enjoy the ambience of the idyllic English countryside, thatched-roofed cottages, strawberry cream teas and oak-timbered pubs.
I had never heard of this film until just now when I stumbled upon it amongst a collection of Trevor Howard features. - and I'm glad I did! Howard is the rather aptly nicknamed "Saltie", an elderly gent living in the eponymous village charged with leading their brass band.
