November 2023 Newsletter (no. 73) Record Manuscripts of the Tudor Visitations: The College of Arms has published an important new volume, which provides a detailed catalogue and index to this key series of official record manuscripts, created by the heralds in the sixteenth century and preserved at the College ever since.
Services - College of Arms. Heralds have been genealogists since the fifteenth century. The hereditary nature of arms encouraged them to develop scientific genealogical methods at an early date. Sir William Dugdale (died 1686), Garter King of Arms, was one of the greatest pioneers of modern genealogical research in England.
The College of Arms holds three artefacts that have a traditional association with the battle of Flodden, where English and Scottish forces famously met in September 1513. Identifying a Coat of Arms or Crest. Officers of arms are often commissioned to try to identify coats of arms and crests. Frequently this work is carried out for museums, auctioneers, and antique dealers so that the provenance of an object may be established. Private individuals also commission such research.
27 set 2022 · The cypher consists of the initial of the monarch’s name, Charles, and title, Rex, the Latin for King, together with his regnal number in Roman numerals - all beneath a representation of the Crown. The cypher is the personal property of His Majesty and the design was selected by him from a series of ten designs prepared by the College of Arms.

By Letters Patent under the Great Seal of the Realm dated 6 November 2023, His Majesty The King has been pleased to appoint Phillip Alan Bone to the Office of Rouge Dragon Pursuivant of Arms, vacant by the promotion of Adam Simon Tuck, now Lancaster Herald of Arms. The appointment has been gazetted here.
