Lucius was the son of Henry Cary, created Viscount Falkland in 1620, and Elizabeth Tanfield. His early years were spent with his grandfather, Sir Lawrence Tanfield, Chief Baron of the Exchequer, whose estate was at Great Tew in Oxfordshire. At the age of twelve, Cary went to join his parents in Ireland, where his father was Lord Deputy.

Lucius Henry Charles Plantagenet Cary, 14th Viscount Falkland (25 January 1905 – 16 March 1984), styled Master of Falkland from 1922 to 1961, was a Scottish peer.
