Four of the cuts on Sammy Steps Out had already appeared on Sammy’s previous Reprise LP, The Goin’s Great, and the remaining six had been recorded way back in March and June of 1968. Sammy Steps Out ’s torturous path to release began in the spring of 1968 when Sammy was in Chicago performing in Golden Boy (in preparation for its run on the West End in London).

12 feb 2007 · It is 1969 and Sammy Davis Jr is nearing the end of his long run of albums on Reprise. This is one of my personal favorites and pleased to find it reissued on CD. The 10 great tracks this album is the bridge from his early 60's sound to what would become his 70's sound when he moved over to MGM,.
