"New College has been the home away from home for more than 2000 residents from local, Mainland China, and worldwide. Sustainability is the College’s central ethos. While facilitating the holistic development of our residents, our goal is to develop future responsible leaders with awareness and actions appreciating environmental, social and economic sustainability.
New College is a place of study all year round. Please therefore do not enter staircases, college rooms, or areas marked as private . The Cloisters, Hall, Chapel and Gardens are fully accessible (access to the hall is via a lift) but please be aware that our grounds have uneven surfaces.
New College’s interdisciplinary academic programs look beyond the traditional areas of study by turning a critical eye to the relationships between the boundaries of knowledge, with an emphasis on equity, diversity and social justice. They share a commitment to broaden students’ experiences through close collaborations with community groups in Toronto and abroad.
New College was prevented by its medieval statutes from adapting to rising demand for university education. Having been the largest college in 1379, by 1800 it was one of the smallest with at most twenty of the seventy fellows being undergraduates.

New College also supports a local Primary School in Oxford and engages with external organisations such as The Brilliant Club, NACE and Thinking Black. In recent years New College, along with two others, has also taken on responsibility for outreach provision in Wales, working with the Seren Network and hosting an annual summer school for Welsh state-school students.
