12 feb 2007 · His music is as versed in country blues as it is in contemporary classical. It was both experimental and accessible and, for me, always joyful. Play all the samples for a taste of the variety of beauty that flowed out of Mr. Hemphill's mind. Be sure to check out The Hard Blues which is one of my favorite jazz compostions.

The most recent is entitled The Hard Blues, recorded live in Lisbon after Hemphill's death from diabetes. In 2021, New World Records released a retrospective seven-disc box set album titled The Boyé Multi-National Crusade for Harmony featuring Hemphill in a variety of mostly live solo and group contexts.
