Adolphus Frederick, 1st duke of Cambridge (born Feb. 24, 1774, London, Eng.—died July 8, 1850, London) was a British field marshal, the seventh son of King George III. Having studied at the University of Göttingen , he served in the Hanoverian army and with the British army in the Low Countries , being severely wounded in 1793.
The 1st Battalion moved to Vilvorde, then on to Leuven, where they had their first engagement with German troops four days later. The following day, during very heavy fighting, Lord Cambridge was killed, the first officer of the Coldstream Guards to fall. He was a popular soldier and his loss was felt.
Lord Cambridge died on 16 April 1981 in Little Abington, and was buried in the Royal Burial Ground, Frogmore. His peerages became extinct. His brother, Lord Frederick Cambridge, had died while fighting in Belgium during World War II .
