Todd Richard Huth et Les Claypool débutent en 1984 dans un groupe s'appelant à l'origine Primate, jusqu'en 1986 où ils changent leur nom en Primus. En 1989, son épouse attendant un enfant, Huth décide de quitter Primus pour consacrer plus de temps à sa famille. Il est remplacé par Larry LaLonde, qui fait toujours partie du groupe à ce jour.

The people that made Primus were bassist and singer Les Claypool and guitarist Todd Huth. The band's first drummer was Vince Parker. Jay Lane replaced Parker. Lane and Huth left the band in 1989.
Sausage. In 1988 Claypool began a short-lived alternative/funk rock band featuring Todd Huth on guitar and Jay Lane on drums. The group released their first album in April 1994 "Riddles Are Abound Tonight" by Prawn Song Records, and did a few short tours and opened for groups such as Helmet, Rollins Band, and Slayer.
