The Sandpit Generals. The Sandpit Generals (also known as The Wild Pack and The Defiant) is a 1971 low budget exploitation film based on the novel Captains of the Sands by Brazilian novellist Jorge Amado. It was little known in USA, but became an iconic film in the USSR where it was awarded "The Best Foreign Film" in 1974.
