Of the three silent films that Frank Borzage made teaming Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell, this is the weakest. I’m normally a fan of Borzage’s romanticism and his themes of love triumphing over adversity and spiritual redemption. But this felt overly sentimental and the story - set in Naples - bordered on melodrama.
