The significant contribution of German writer-director Frank Wisbar, the creator of the finest low-budget horror film of the 1940s, Strangler of the Swamp, has been largely overlooked. Produced by PRC, this lesser-known “B” movie was a 58-minute remake of Wisbar’s 1936 classic Fahrmann Maria.

24 mag 2016 · Strangler of the Swamp has gained a modest cult reputation – again, because of its being championed by William K. Everson in his book Classics of the Horror Film (1974). The film is not widely recognised but is one of the few from PRC (Producers Releasing Corporation) to gain critical recognition – a studio that was otherwise notorious for their extreme penny-pinching productions.

I recently read Tom Weaver's review of "Strangler of the Swamp" in his excellent "Poverty Row Horrors". I pretty much agree with his opinions of this film yet, I like it anyway!

Die action-orientierten Produzenten der PRC hatten endlich einmal selbst einen guten Stoff in der Hand, eine vereinfachte Neufassung seines alten Klassikers.
