3 apr 2017 · Vera could have and should have been the spark American Fable needed. She should have been flamboyant, magnetic, and bombastic. She is the devil, after all, in this “making a deal with the devil” allegory. She’s supposed to be seductive and ruthlessly manipulative, so we can understand the temptation to bend to her will in the first place.
When 11-year-old Gitty discovers that her father, Abe, a good and beloved farmer, is holding a wealthy man hostage in their abandoned silo in order to save their suffering farm, she befriends the captive in secret. As the truth unfolds about who he is and what will happen if he escapes, Gitty chooses to confront the thin line between reality and fiction.

At the time, veteran farmers across America suffered the worst economic conditions since the Great Depression, ranging from droughts to soaring interest rates, derailing property values to unfathomable foreclosures.
AMERICAN FABLE is a fairytale thriller set in the 1980s rural Midwest about a courageous girl living in a dark and magical world. When 11-year-old Gitty discovers that her beloved father is hiding a wealthy man in her family's silo in order to save their struggling farm, she is forced to choose between saving the man's life or protecting her family from the consequences of their actions.
