Nicholas Carew (Höfling) Sir Nicholas Carew nach Hans Holbein. Sir Nicholas Carew oder Carewe (* um 1496; † 8. März 1539) war ein englischer Adliger sowie Rittmeister und Diplomat unter König Heinrich VIII. Following the joining of two Beddington estates through marriage, Carew Manor was born, and it was possibly around this time that Nicholas Carew created the moat that once surrounded the house. 2 giorni fa · Nicholas Carew. In the chapel of St Nicholas in Westminster Abbey is an altar tomb of Purbeck marble to Nicholas, Baron Carew. It is placed against the wall under the monument to Lady Fane. There is no longer any inscription and the three shields have gone. In a guidebook to the Abbey of 1600 the inscription is given and this can be translated:

Sir Nicholas Carew was buried in the church of St. Botolph, Aldersgate, in the same tomb with Thomas lord Darcy, and others of his family. A small monument to their memory, supported by Corinthian columns, was preserved when the church was rebuilt, and is placed against the west wall of the porch.
20 apr 2016 · Sir Nicholas was with Henry for the Siege of Tournai and he was at the Field of Cloth of Gold. In 1537 he turns up as one of the nobles in charge of the font in which the infant Prince Edward was baptised. There was also the small matter of his wife – Elizabeth Bryan. Elizabeth and Anne Boleyn were cousins. Their mothers were half-sisters.
