Graham was the third and only surviving son of Thomas Græme of Balgowan, in Perthshire and Lady Christian Hope, daughter of the 1st Earl of Hopetoun. He was educated at Christ Church. He inherited from his father in 1777 and, in 1785, went on to purchase the estate of Lynedoch.
Lynedoch, Thomas Graham, 1st Baron (1748–1843). General. On 3 September 1785 Graham participated in the first cricket match to be played in Scotland. After the death of his wife (whose portrait by Gainsborough hangs in the Scottish National Gallery) in 1791, Graham turned from managing his estate to a political and military career.
In the 1780s Graham, who still coveted the Perthshire seat but avoided active involvement in county politics, developed strong Whig sympathies, which were at odds with Atholl’s political leanings. He was elected to Brooks’s in 1783 and joined the Whig Club in 1785. 1. In 1791, his wife’s health collapsed.

9 dic 2020 · LYNEDOCH, THOMAS GRAHAM, 1st Baron (1748–1843), British general, was the son of Thomas Graeme, laird of Balgowan, and was born on the 19th of October 1748. He was educated by private tutors, among whom was James Macpherson ( q.v. ), and was a gentleman commoner of Christ Church, Oxford, between 1766 and 1768.
