Boris (ボリス, Borisu) is a Japanese band formed in 1992 in Tokyo and composed of drummer Atsuo, guitarist/bassist Takeshi, and guitarist/keyboardist Wata. All three members contribute vocals. Their work has drawn variously on styles such as sludge metal, drone, noise, psychedelia, and minimalism. [1] .

Boris have a well-established history of collaboration with Japanoise artist Merzbow. Thus far, three of the collaborations with Merzbow have been full-length albums, one of them is a 12-inch EP, and the last two are live albums.
Influenced greatly by Seattle's sludge metal scene, Boris formed in 1992, taking their name from the eponymous Melvins song, and debuting as a drone metal band with the 1996 album, Absolutego.
