8 feb 2024 · 1. Visit Durham Cathedral. The Cathedral is the most important attraction in Durham. It’s possibly the most famous cathedral in the whole of Britain. After the Norman Conquest of England, this cathedral was built in the late 11 th century. So, clearly, the architecture of the cathedral has significant Norman influence.
Durham, England. There are two upland regions in the geographic county of Durham. In the west the limestones of the Pennines —reaching an elevation of 2,452 feet (747 metres) at Burnhope Seat—dip gently eastward and are dissected by the valleys of the Rivers Wear and Tees. Basaltic rocks are exposed at High Force waterfall and near Stanhope.

Durham is a city in County Durham in North East England, with a population of 23,175 in 2021. The name probably derives from "Dun-holme", or hill-island, because it's set on a ridge above a tight loop of the River Wear. On this peninsula lies the well-preserved old core of the city, with an imposing Norman Cathedral and Castle.
