Banklady è tratto dalla storia vera di Gisela Werler, persona realmente esistita come descritta nel film. Lei è stata infatti la prima rapinatrice di banche della Germania con un curricullum di 19 rapine a mano armata effettuate sempre con travestimenti diversi ed efficaci. Gisela nacque il 18 agosto 1934 ed è vissutata ad Amburgo.
