Much of Dewey's philosophy is grounded in turn of the century idealism of Democracy and Populism. Topics and areas generally associated with classical education, or "aristocratic insterests" wasn't much use for the common man, a person more keen on learning "practical" knowledge. From where I stand, I find him missing the point.
